Hello to all our parents and readers! Grade 5, 6 and 7 students have continued their online lessons over the past two weeks and are already coming close to completing the first line of Inquiry of this school year! The students have admitted that online learning is harder and more tiring than regular classroom time, but are persistent to make the best of the situation and are not giving up, working hard on their assignments and even going above and beyond by requesting and organizing their time to do Golden Week homework. ⏰
皆さん、こんにちは。この2週間オンライン授業を行ってきましたが、もう今年度最初の探究の単元の終わりが近づいてきました。子ども達はオンライン授業のほうが通常のより難しく疲れると話してくれました。しかし、この状況を最大限に活かしていくために諦めずに、一生懸命課題に取り組んでいて、さらにゴールデンウィーク中の宿題をするために時間を管理して期待をはるかに超える姿がみられました。
This week, the students discussed individuality and its meaning. Everyone agreed that it is important to show that you are an individual, even in the context of belonging to a social group and following social norms and had a lot of fun talking about the ways that they are individuals: some dress in a way that is different from others, some hold their toys in an unusual way, some are open about enjoying activities that their friends are not into, some like to wear fancy clothes to non-fancy occasions. 👗
今週は個性とその意味について話し合いをしました。皆、自分が社会集団に属して社会規範に従う状況の中でも自分という個人を示すことは重要であると同意していました。そして、個性の表し方についての話し合いがとても活発に行われました。例えば、他の人とは違った形で服を着ている人、珍しい方法でおもちゃを持っている人、友達が好きではないアクティビティを楽しんでいる人、地味な場所で派手な服を着ることが好きな人などがあげられました。
Last week, they touched upon the topic that has been on everyone’s lips recently: the corona virus pandemic. The students connected the topic with the Unit of inquiry they are currently inquiring into and talked about how social distancing changed their behavior and lowered the amount of interaction they have with most of their social groups (classmates, teachers, club members), but some students noticed the plus side: they get to spend more time with their families! 👨👩👦
先週、誰もが感心のある話題に触れました。コロナウイルスの世界的大流行についてです。現在学んでいる探究の流れに繋げて、ソーシャルディスタンシング（社会的距離戦略）がどのように人々の行動に変化を与え、社会集団（クラスメート、先生、クラブメンバー）との接触率を下げたかについて話し合いました。プラスの面について気が付いた子もいました。それは、家族と一緒に過ごす時間が増えたことです！ 👨👩👦
After a week of honing their research, grammar and writing skills with writing essays, the students expressed their desire for more creative work and enjoyed making comic books and writing stories. Some students worked overtime to create stories with multiple chapters, well-developed characters and lots of humorous jokes. 😂
リサーチ、文法とエッセイを書いてライティングスキルを磨いた一週間後、生徒達はより創造的な作業をしたいとの声があがりましたので、ストーリーを書いて漫画作りを楽しみました。行動・意見・見方を変えさせた社会集団のおもしろいシチュエーションやさまざまなキャラクターを考えました。時間外にも取り組み、よく考えられたキャラクターやたくさんのジョークを交えた複数のチャプターを書いた子もいました。
The students have also been learning and the process of making a movie and the jobs of directors, screenwriters, costume designers, editors, cinematographers and set designers, since, as part of this Unit’s summative assessment task, they will be writing, filming, acting in and editing their own short movie, with the job of showing the knowledge they acquired during the Unit. The teams started their planning meeting already and will finish their movies by the end of May. Next step: The Oscars! 🎥
映画監督の仕事、脚本家、衣装デザイナー、編集者、撮影スタッフ、舞台装置デザイナーなどや映画制作の流れを学んでいます。今回の探究の単元の最終評価プロジェクトの一環として、今回のテーマで学んだ知識を示す仕事の短編映画を作ります。短編映画は、自分達で描いたり、収録したり、演技したり編集をします！チームはもう計画ミーティングをしました。5月末までに映画を完成させます。次のステップはオスカーです！
From next week, the class will come to school two times a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. School day is always the most fun for the students, involving lots of play and face-to-face communication that they miss. Have a nice weekend and see you then! 🌷
来週からは、火曜日と木曜日の週2日間の登校になります。子ども達にとっては、一緒に沢山遊んでコミュニケーションがとれる登校日が一番楽しいようです。良い週末をお過ごしください。 🌷
