Grade 1 “Tea Ceremony"茶道

The most interesting event that the first graders were most excited to this week was the tea ceremony.

今週の一番の目玉、毎月恒例のクッキングレッスンで茶道を体験しました。

The Japanese tea ceremony is a Japanese tradition steeped in history. It is a ceremonial way of preparing and drinking green tea typically in a traditional tearoom with tatami floor. Beyond just serving and receiving tea, one of the main purposes of the tea ceremony is for the guests to enjoy the hospitality of the host in an atmosphere distinct from the fast pace of everyday life.

Students loved learning this Japanese tradition and even me, a Filipino, while I was watching them, I enjoyed learning the Japanese culture. I love the hospitality it inculcates. Interesting!

For our Unit of Inquiry, we have just started our last Transdisciplinary Theme which is Sharing the Planet. The first graders are learning about Zoology in this unit. We have discovered new words and have classified animals between vertebrates and invertebrates. We will be discovering more about this unit in the next coming weeks.

Have a great weekend everyone!
