You’re gonna hear us roar!

Greetings, everyone! What a warm and sunny week we’ve had. A bit of rain as well, but luckily, only for a short time. ☀️

With the parent meetings finished (thank you everyone for joining them!), the class is focusing on other projects that they have entered in their calendars. A big point of discussion this week has been the upcoming Sports Day that will take place on July 12th. For the day, all Elementary students will perform two dances, and Grade 4, 5 and 6 students get the chance to choose their own song that they will perform to, the props they will use and choreograph the dance moves themselves. 💃

The song selection process was very heated, with the students putting in their ideas for a variety of pop and rock songs and campaigning for their favorite song to get selected. On Friday, the voting committee (the students themselves), through a grueling (but fair!) voting process, decided on the winning song – Roar! From next week, we will start choreographing our dance. 🐯

Another big event this week was Friday’s visit from Marty Bracey, a musician from the US, who plays with his band around Japan and holds music lessons. He has played the drums and other instruments for many years and held a session with Grade 2 – 5 students, talking about different instruments he brought, their origins and allowing the students to play the instrument. Everyone in the Class commented it was a lot of fun. In order to prepare, the students made their own instruments out of craft materials, stretching their imagination to new heights. The only condition was that the instrument can produce sound, so the students experimented with various materials (plastic straws, cardboard boxes, rubber bands) to see which sounds they made when pressed against each other at different speed or force. They ended up with beautiful guitars, harmonicas, flutes of their imagination. 🎺

The class is continuing to get better and better with their computer programming lessons. In Logo, they have been using programming keywords to write out their names and draw pictures made up of squares and circles. From this week, our joined Math lessons will focus on revising all the knowledge related to fractions and in Monday’s grammar lessons, we will spend the next four weeks talking about the passive voice. 💪

We have also continued talking about the topic of human life cycles. Everyone agreed that, even though we might share some parts of our life cycles like being born and dying, some are completely different: some people marry, some don’t, some have children, some don’t, some children (unfortunately) don’t even go to school. They have also seen videos and discussed the topic of pregnancy and motherhood. 👵

This weekend will be a warm and sunny one! Enjoy yourselves and see you next week! 😀
