It's alive! – Shooting Star 1/17 – 1/21

Does it breathe? Does it eat? Does it reproduce? Is it living or non-living?
空気が必要?食べ物が必要?生殖(再生)する?それは生物?無生物?

Sit back and relax as you tag along and find out what these questions are about!
リラックスしながらこれらの質問の答えを見つけましょう!

Our journey this week was jampacked with a fun learning experience!
今週のSSクラスはたくさんの楽しいアクティビティでいっぱいでした!

1st stop: UOI

We have been digging about the ecosystem and we discovered that it consists of 2 kinds of things: Living and non-living things.
エコシステムについてもっと深く探究しています。そしてみんなはエコシステムには生物と無生物が共存していることを学びました。

Living things are those things that breathe, reproduce and have life, and non-living things are otherwise. To help us decide if one is living or non-living, we come up with the question: Does it grow and reproduce? Does it eat and breathe? Does it have a life? or Is it man-made? If the answer is YES, then it is a living thing, and if not, it’s a non-living thing.
生物はみんな息をします。そして生殖(再生)し、命を持っています。食べ物や水も必要とします。しかし無生物はそれらのことを必要としません。「それは成長し、再生する?それは食べ物を食べて、水を飲み、息をする?それには命がある?人間が作ったもの?」これらの質問を自分の中で繰り返し生物か無生物か確かめます。

We wanted to give the students a bold understanding and strong foundation of the difference between the two, that’s why we decided to incorporate the following activities to help them reach the goal.
みんなにはこの二つの存在の違いをしっかりと学んでほしいので、以下のアクティビティを実行しました。

UOI CRAFT: “Making my own non-living thing.”
クラフトアクティビティで、自分の作った無生物を披露しました。人に作られたものは全て無生物に入ります。

Thanks to the help of our parents in providing the materials for this craft. Through this craft, the students understood that anything that is man-made is a non-living thing.
保護者の皆様のご協力のおかげでクラフトを完成させることができました。ありがとうございました!みんなは無生物を自分達でも作れることを学び、そして無生物=人間が作ったものだということを理解することができました。

Worksheet: Students picked the things that they thought were non-living things and pasted them on their worksheet.
ビデオを見て、無生物についてのリズミカルな歌を聴きながら知識を深めました。そしてカット&ぺーストアクティビティでみんなの知識を確かめました。

Book Research: The students used the books in our classroom and hunted for living things; They presented their answers in front and shared why they thought it was a non-living thing.
リサーチアクティビティでは本の中から生物を選びみんなの前で発表しました。発表では「生物の〇〇を見つけました。」なぜそれは生物なの?という先生の質問に「〇〇は水を飲み食べ物を必要とします。」などの答えを言いました。みんなとても良く理解していることが分りました👏

Living/Nonliving things Hunting and worksheet: We have gone out to hunt the living and nonliving things! Everyone was so excited to be hunters!

2nd stop: Phonics

We had more sound hunting for Phonics this week. As a continuation of our activity last week, the students were again tasked to look for words that have blending sounds and digraphs. The students used the Blend words chart they were given as their guide in looking for words. They all had fun and aced the activity without a sweat.

3rd stop: Math

We realized that math is everywhere because wherever we go, we can see patterns. This week, we did not only look for patterns through shapes and images but also through dance steps. Some of the students went in front and made steps with unique patterns and the whole class followed and danced with everyone.
SSクラスのみんなはパターンについて学ぶことで、算数がどこにでも存在することを知りました。今週はパターンとは絵や形だけではなく、ダンスステップにも見られることを学びました。このアクティビティでは、数名の子どもがクラスの前にたちステップを作りそれをみんなが真似をしました。

More patterns.

5th stop: Reading

Our book this week contains words that have a short /u/ sound. Using this book, we did not just practice our reading skills, but also our comprehension skills. As we read the book, we discuss the thoughts and meaning of the content of the book. Also, the students learned an English idiom from this book: “Get off me” meaning: “Leave me alone” or “Don’t touch me.” We will learn more vocabulary and idiomatic expressions in our coming reading lessons.
今週のRazブックでは、母音の/u/の短い発音を含んだ単語の内容でした。そしてこの本には慣用表現も含まれており、「Get off me」は「Leave me alone」(一人にさせて!)や「Don’t touch me」(触らないで!)という意味があることを学びました。これからはこのような慣用表現も入った本を読んでいきます。たくさんの新しい単語も出てきます。みんなの英語能力がどんどん高まるのがとても楽しみです😉✌️

I hope you all had fun reading our weekly blog! See you again in the next one!
今週のブログを楽しく読んでいただけたら嬉しいです💖それではまた来週!良い週末をお過ごしください!
