Rainforest learns about history and culture

Rainforest class’s unit of inquiry is: “The history of its community and country shapes its culture.” We have been learning about timelines, using important milestones in the childrens’ lives to explain the concepts of past, present and future. A lot of children decided they wanted to be florists, firefighters and painters when they grow up.
We have also been looking the the ideas of community and culture and have studied Japanese traditions and celebrations from other countries. We read a book from my childhood that is set in Japan hundreds of years ago called ‘Mighty Mountain and the Three Strong Women’ as well as ‘Yoshi the Stonecutter’ to have an understanding of life in the past for Japan.
