The Rainforest class has started a new journey, a new inquiry where they will immerse themselves in the existing problem of our community. Under the transdisciplinary theme of Sharing The Planet, the rainforest class will inquire about the 3Rs.
The inquiry will revolve around the central idea of “How the 3Rs help the environment”.
This week, we finally opened the unit. We started with a gallery walk where we looked at different images of pollution which is one of the big problems of the environment. From the pictures they came up with lots of ideas, opinions, and questions as well, which we posted on our wonder wall! These questions will help us navigate the unit.
One of the questions is: What are the 3Rs? To help the inquirers to be more involved in finding the answer; we had a book research activity. The whole class went to the library and looked for any books that they think is connected with the 3Rs or environment, and listed the information they thought they could use in the inquiry.
The activity was very engaging and all the inquirers exerted effort in looking for books and information about the topic; this activity also helped them hone their reading ability and communication skills.
Also, before they move forward, they assess themselves first and ask: Where Am I? This assessment will help the whole class how much support each of the inquiry needs.
We practiced spelling this week, too! It is just amazing how our students have mastered each sound of the alphabet and play with them. Now, they are not just reading, but also spelling!
We will inquire more about the 3Rs next week, and see how can these Rs help the environment! Have a wonderful long weekend!
