In September, which is Disaster Prevention Month, we invited members of the Nagisa Fire Department to conduct a full-scale evacuation drill for all students. The drill was conducted under the assumption that an earthquake would occur, followed by a fire. When the teacher said “Earthquake!”, the Rainbow children instantly looked tense, but they listened carefully to the teacher’s instructions to protect themselves and were able to evacuate quickly when they heard the alarm bell and the voice of “Fire!” After evacuating outside, they listened to the fire department members and learned about the dangers of earthquakes and fires, and the importance of evacuation. The teachers were taught how to use fire extinguishers and practiced using them. After the tense drill was over, we were given a tour of the large fire engines.
We had a gym lesson. Even after the sports festival, our children are full of energy. They seem to feel the comfort of moving their bodies, the fun of taking on challenges, and the joy of achieving. They are full of curiosity even on walks, walking energetically and telling us about the autumn scenery and insects they find. They are absorbing a lot as risk takers, which is one of the learner profiles we aim to be!
Mr. Igor came to our class! Our children were excited about our unusual “morning cercle”! They had a great time learning ABCs with Mr. Igor and he read picture books to them.
This month’s topic, “shapes,” is almost over. Our children, who have learned the names of various shapes, proudly talk about them. They also have no trouble playing and doing shape-related activities. Even after the topic is over, we will continue to talk about shapes whenever we have the chance, stimulating the children’s desire for knowledge and curiosity.
Have a nice weekend!
