From novel to play script

Highlighting our IB Transdisciplinary Theme “How we express ourselves” and our Central Idea “Through creative arts we can discover a culture’s history, values and beliefs.” students in ISN Elementary Class are enjoying a deeper understanding of what art is and how we can use it.
Over the past few months students have been reading the novel “Charlotte’s Web” by E. B. White.
Now that we have finished reading it, we have converted the story to a play script which we will perform at the ISN Christmas Show in December. After considering our audience (ISN students and their families and friends) we carefully chose which parts of the story were the most interesting and important. Then we had to consider the time we would have in the show to perform our play: only 20 minutes. With this in mind we had to choose only the most important parts but still make sure the play would be entertaining and meaningful for our audience.
Students now have their characters and their lines and are working hard to practice their creativity in performance. Using lots of volume, expression and action, students are making sure it will be a great show for our audience.
Importantly students are constructing a list of the props they will need to make as well as the costumes they need to prepare. In addition back-drop images, sound effects and song lyrics need to be created. Everyone has been showing lots of enthusiasm, cooperation and creativity sharing their ideas and making final decisions.
Excellent attitudes Elementary Class!
In our listening activities students have been using the listening portal where 5 students can listen to the same story or documentary at the same time while other students can be doing different activities.
This week we have also been investigating the art of stained glass. Today we designed our own stained glass picture. It was very challenging but everyone showed commitment, enthusiasm and creativity. Well done Elementary Class!
