The Grade 4, 5 and 6 students have started their inquiry into their new Unit of Inquiry, the one dealing with culture and how people can express their culture through art. As usual, we started with a discussing that had the students sharing some interesting ideas about different culture, what connects them and what makes them different, different media that can be used to express the aspects of someone’s culture and why is it important to learn about other’s culture. 📚
What is more artsy than craft though and the students have continued carving out Jack’o’Lanterns, making Halloween decorations and discussing their Christmas show, writing the lines and making the props.
In Science lesson, we talked about decomposing and the things that happen to animals and plants after the end of their life, in Economics and Society, we discussed what is income and different types of taxes we know, in Math we made connections between percentages and decimal numbers and fractions and in History, we discussed mummies. 今週から新しい探究の単元（UOI）「芸術を通して人々がどのように文化を伝える」の探究が始まりました。
いつもUOIの導入のように、子ども達で今回のテーマについて話し合いをしました。まず、様々な文化についての興味深いアイディアを共有したり、何が文化をつなげたり、何が文化を異なるものにするか、誰かの文化の側面を表現するために使われる様々なメディアについてや他の文化を学ぶことがなぜ大切かを話し合いました。
クラフトより芸術的なことを行っています！今週もジャクオーランタンのかぼちゃを彫りました。そして、ハロウィンのデコレーションを作成して、クリスマスショーについて話し合い、台詞を書いて小道具を作っています。
サイエンスの授業では、動物や植物の寿命が終わった後に起こることと腐敗について話し合いました。経済と社会の授業では収入と私達が知っている様々な税金とは何かについて話し合いをしました。歴史の授業では、ミイラについて議論しました。
