After work comes play

Students in Elementary Class are now very good at working through their contract activities before they move onto their play activities.
In their contract students have 9 tasks involving speaking, reading, writing, listening, and math that must be finished before they can choose a game. Each student has a checklist sheet to tick off the tasks as they do them. Students are also encouraged to write a reflection to help them plan and work better the next day.
One of their favourite games is AGO: a card game where you have to answer questions and whoever can put down all their cards first is the winner.
Another play activity that is very popular is listening to stories from a CD. The music, the songs, the different voices, and the sound effects are helping students appreciate the ways that make a story more entertaining. In our Christmas Show play we are also using these ideas to make our acting more exciting. We want to “wow” our audience.
