Grade 4, 5 and 6:

Hello, everyone! We hope you had a nice week, despite the sudden downpour of rain and the cold. 🌧️

This week, the Grade 4, 5 and 6 students continued their inquiry into sustainability of life on Earth. They started by discussing how we pollute by using non-recyclable and wasteful packaging. They looked at examples of packaging of supermarket coffee, chocolate, pen and banana and tried designing new ones that were more environment-friendly. We learned that cutting down on plastic doesn’t necessary mean good things for sustainability, because making paper packaging can often use up more water, energy and chemicals. ♻️

The students also watched a video on food waste and discussed strategies to minimize food waste that they implement in their homes, such as packing up leftover food, buying only the things they immediately need when going to the supermarket and not filling up their fridges and plates to the brim. 🍔

In Maths lesson, the students practiced calculating area, in Science, we discussed the steps of water filtration and tried making our own filters for muddy water, in Health, we talked about the difference between positive and negative risks, while in Art, they studied the works of Austrian painter Gustav Klimt.

Have a great weekend! ☀️
