Grade 5, 6 and 7: Rainy days

Hello, everyone. Are you feeling a little bit sad that the rainy season has finally started? Or are you excited about it like the Grade 5, 6 and 7 students, who enjoyed a breather from very hot weather of the past week and were also looking forward to playing more indoor games. 🌧️

In this week’s UOI time, the students continued to inquire into the life and travels of Marco Polo by exploring (unfortunately only virtually) the same cities he explored hundreds of years ago and showing the things they considered to be most interesting about them to their friends. They also heard the story of Robert Scott and Roald Amundsen, two great explorers who fought for the glory of being the first one to reach the South Pole in 1911. The story was a bit scary, but with amazing plot-twists and movie-like conclusion, which seemed to make the students very interested in the topic. 🧭

On Friday, the students discussed different ways of improving their focus, which has been lacking recently. Everyone agreed to try harder to go to sleep earlier, eat a healthy breakfast every day and discussed ways of dealing with problems and stress they might have. They students thought it would be nice to talk to someone about their problems, even if that person’s role is only to listen. As a class, we will try to think of interesting games that help the students practice their focus. 🤔

In Math lesson, we learned about volume of square and triangular prisms, in Science, the students tried to play with physics by making the longest possible working water slide out of craft, in History we talked about timelines and tried to create a timeline of Ancient China, while in Health, we started a discussion of healthy and unhealthy food and what effect promoting such meals can have on children.

Have a nice and relaxed weekend. ☔
