Only interesting and important information please!

Students in ISN Elementary Class have been inquiring into the various occupations within our community. The amount of information on this topic can be overwhelming so students have been learning the essential skill of choosing only what is interesting and important.
“Who we are” has certainly been an excellent transdisciplinary theme engaging students in activities involving art, language, social studies, and computer studies.
Our central idea “Occupations are interconnected and essential for the well-being of a community.” has led students to ask lots of questions and to inquire further into what people actually do in their various occupations.
Students have gathered, and recorded in note form, information from 4 sources: viewing and discussing pictures of people working; interviewing parents about their work; Reading books; and watching documentaries. Discussing this information, students then chose and recorded what they thought was important and interesting.
