What do chefs do?

Famous chefs often say “Anyone can cook!” And when you cook, you get to eat the result of your work!
ISN Elementary Class students have made a list of all the occupations they have experienced within their community. From this list they voted the “chef” as the one they would like to find out more about.
Our IB transdisciplinary theme is “Who we are” and it has been interesting investigating further the exciting occupation of a chef. Following our central idea “Occupations are interconnected and essential for the well-being of a community.”, students have also been discussing the occupations of their parents. Three of our parents have occupations in the food industry and 2 of those are chefs.
After some research and discussion, students made a mind map of their discoveries. From that information, students are choosing what they think is interesting and important. The next challenge is to decide what is the best way to present their chosen information to an audience of fellow students.
Another occupation we have been investigating is firefighters. Reading books written by firefighters, students have learned more about what to do if there is a fire. In addition to our ISN fire drills which we do frequently, students have had the opportunity to practice other life-saving drills like crawling to stay to stay low and breathing the good air, and how to stop, drop and roll if ever your clothes are on fire.
Sadly this week we had to say goodbye to Miss Bethle. We really enjoyed having her as one of our teachers for both Elementary Class and for the Project. Thank you so much Miss Bethle! We wish you all the best and we hope to see you again soon.
