Making Friends! Aurora: May 23-27 (友達を作ろう!)

Hello everyone and welcome back to Aurora’s weekly blog! After a week of break, we are glad to be back on track! Most students came to school to attend classes and everybody seemed to miss doing their favorite activities in school!

On Monday, we had our Phonics lesson and we learned about the uppercase and lowercase letter Dd, its sound, and words that begin with the said letter such as dog, duck, deer, dolphin, drum, and doll. After that, we played Letter Dd Ring Toss.⭕ They had to throw the ring to the cones with the letter Dd. Everyone had fun and did a great job in finding the letter Dd. Well done!👏

月曜日はフォニックスのレッスンで大文字と小文字のD・dと、その音、そしてDog(犬)、Duck(アヒル)、Deer(鹿)、Dolphin(イルカ)、Drum(ドラム)、Doll(人形)など、その文字で始まる単語について学びました。

Tuesday was a busy day because we made a craft and had a UOI lesson. Aurora class did the Lion Scissor Practice craft. This super cute activity is great for helping kids develop scissors skills. First, they glued the yellow paper which is the face of the lion on the orange paper. Then, cut around the orange paper to make the fur or mane. Finally, they drew the face parts of the lion.🦁 Each of them have shown improvement on how to hold and use scissors and they enjoyed cutting while saying “Open, shut them. Open, shut them. Give a little cut, cut, cut!”✂️😄 They are also very proud of their work and keep saying that their lion is cute!🤩

In UOI, we learned how to make friends independently and confidently. Since our class was from two different classes last year, we want them to be friends or have a closer relationship with one another. We played the Greeting game with a ball and music. Everyone sat in a circle and we sang ” What’s your name?” song while passing the ball to their friends. When the music stops, they have to choose a friend and greet him/her saying, “Hello! What’s your name? Let’s be friends!” with a shake hand and giving a ball to their friend. All of them were happy and didn’t want to end the game.🥰

What’s your name? Let’s be friends!

Another activity we did was group painting. This activity required them to work together and practice sharing and taking turns while communicating with their friends. Because they love the Spring season, they painted anything related to Spring such as flowers, rain, mountains, and butterflies. Aside from paint brushes, they used toilet paper rolls and their hands to make flower shapes.🌼

To end our LOI2, we had a Formative Assessment which we called “Find a Friend”. Each student was given a card with pictures of the things they would ask about their friends which includes pizza, doughnut, heart, star, and ice cream. After a few practice of saying, “Do you like (pizza)? Yes, I do! No, I don’t!”, we let them ask their friends by themselves and talk to each other. The purpose of this activity is to see how independent, confident, and comfortable the students are in terms of making friends. This was a good opportunity for them to communicate with their friends in English and develop self confidence in speaking. Everybody was able to interview their friends and we are glad to see that they have smiles on their faces while talking to their friends which means they are achieving the main purpose of the activity.😍

「 Do you like pizza? / Yes, I do! / No, I don’t!

Aurora class had a wonderful time at the gym on Wednesday! They got very excited when their teacher gave each of them a ball and it became even more exciting when they started doing various activities using that ball!🏀 Let’s take a look on how they enjoyed the activities!😀

After the UOI lesson on Thursday, our class had workstation activities such as Number Building Tower, Carrot Leaf Counting, and Letters Aa to Dd Playdough Mat. We divided them into three groups and after 10 minutes, they would move to the next station activity so that they could all experience and learn all the same activities. After naptime, we are also playing the Alphabet and Number Fish version of Feed the Bear activity. These workstation activities encourage students to work in small groups. They promote learning through active engagement, sharing, and collaboration. We make sure that students know and understand what their goal is in each activity and that they have to do it properly so that they can move to the next station.

Number Building Tower, Carrot Leaf Counting, and Letters A・a to D・d Playdough Mat. 昼寝後は、FeedtheBear(熊さんの餌付け)のアクティビティでも遊んでいます。

NUMBER FISH: FEED THE BEAR

On Friday, we finally had our Music class!🎶 They sang Japanese songs related to Spring season.🌸 They practiced playing castanets while learning the sounds of animals in Japanese such as pig, cat, and sheep. Our very energetic Aurora students also walked, ran, and swang according to the rhythm of the music played by the teacher. Everyone loved the activities!💖

This month, one of our little boys celebrated his 4th birthday in our class. We put a crown on him, sang the birthday song, greeted him, and gave him a birthday card. Happy, happy birthday my dear!🎉
