With or without rules?

Hello everyone!🤗

This week in UOI, we learned about RULES which we defined as the things that tell us which are okay and not okay to do in a particular place like home, school or park. We want Aurora students to realize and understand the importance of having and following rules through a play. I showed them the dice we are using for the play and everyone was so excited to touch and play with it. Without giving them any instructions or rules on how to play the game, I just gave them the dice and told them “You can play!”. It’s interesting to see their reactions and what they did. Two of the students were so fast and able to get the dice. The rest of the class were divided into two groups circled around the students with the dice and trying to convince their friends to give them the dice. They were very calm at the beginning, until they got frustrated and others started to cry and fight over it. That’s the time I had to stop them and take the dice from them and ask everyone to sit in a circle. Did you enjoy playing? NO! Why not? Because she/he did not share the dice! Do you know how to play the dice? NO! Did I tell you how to play the dice? NO!

Do you want to play again? YES! This time, we played ROLL THE DICE! I told them the rules on how to play it and everyone got a chance to touch and roll it. When I asked them if they enjoyed it, they finally said YES. Do you want to play with or without rules? They raised their hands to agree to playing with rules.

Another activity we did was through a worksheet. This is to know how well the students were able to follow directions/rules given by the teacher. We gave them a worksheet and instructed them step by step directions/rules to complete the worksheet. Everybody was listening quietly to my directions, until others got excited to finish it and did it by themselves thinking that they already know what’s the next step and it’s better to finish first. Then we compared their work and asked them if they were able to do it properly according to my instructions.

Finally, we realized and understood that listening to the teacher is as important as following the directions and rules given by the teacher or set to a game, because it guides you and tells you what you are supposed to do and achieve your goal perfectly!

In Phonics, we focused on the letter Gg as in girl, grass, green, goldfish, grapes, guitar, and gate. To learn its sound and remember the words beginning with the letter G we played “Sliding Letter Gg Flashcards”. We sat in a circle and asked the students to pass the picture card to the friend next to them hand in hand and later we tried to pass it by sliding the card on the floor going to their friend. We say the /g/ sound and the word while passing each card.

フォニックスでは、 girl(女の子), grass(草), green(緑), goldfish(金魚), grapes(ブドウ), guitar(ギター), and gate(門)など、アルファベットのG・gに焦点を当てました。

Workstation Activities for June and July: These activities are good to improve students’ fine motor skills. Fine motor skills are necessary for many aspects of self-care as children, for example: putting on shoes, feeding themselves, cleaning their own teeth. Fine motor skills are also critical for the development of emergent writing.

In Music class, our boys and girls are learning to sing new Japanese songs. Aside from castanets, they also started to make music using rhythm sticks which they use to tap the colored paper in front of them: red, white, yellow.

The weather was nice and perfect for going to the park! We walked to the park on Monday and went to another park on Thursday by bus. Look how they enjoyed the playground!

That’s it for this week! See you next week for our school open day! Have a wonderful weekend!😊
