Goodbye, June! Hello, July!
MW保護者のみなさまへ
We are already in the second half of 2019, and our learning activities in Milky Way just keep on getting exciting. We are nearing towards the end of Unit 2, and this week, we focused on the remaining elements of Japanese culture, which are food, traditions, and language.
もう２０１９年も半分終わりましたが、MWクラスのアクティビティはますます楽しくなるばかりです！年長クラスのUnit２はもうすぐ終わりを迎えます。そして今週は残りの日本の文化の要素の食、伝統、言語を重点的に学びました。
We learned that Japanese Food is famous around the world for its unique taste and ingredients. The students are all so excited to share in class their knowledge about Japanese Food and what do they like about them. We even tried to recreate a Bento box using various craft materials. The Milky Way students were able to showcase their creative skills and resourcefulness in this fun activity.
日本食は味が豊かで、色々な食材でできているので、世界的にとても人気だということを学びました。生徒達の日本食についての知識や、自分の好物もクラスでシェアしました。クラフトではMWの生徒達の想像力を生かし、色々な素材を使ってお弁当を完成させました。どのアクティビティもみんなの想像力でとても楽しいアクティビティになります！
The next element that we talked about is Japanese traditions. We learned that Japanese people place great value on respect and politeness and so we explored some of the most important behavior and customs that we need to practice in order to create harmony in the community. We also had a short discussion about Japanese art where we learned about origami. It was challenging to create a paper frog, but all of us had so much fun doing it.
伝統については、日本の敬意（尊敬）の示し方と礼儀作法を重点的に探求しました。日本では、尊敬と礼儀に高い評価をおいています。その中でも重要な行動と習慣を探求しより良いコミュニティを築くため、クラスでも練習をしました。日本のアートのひとつの、折り紙の話もしました。カエルを折り紙で作るのはとても大変で難しかったですが、みんなとても楽しそうにおり紙をしていました！
The last element that we explored is language. We learned that every country has its own language and it is very important in enriching and sustaining the nation’s culture. We had a short discussion about the Japanese language and its three writing systems. Afterwards, we played a matching game with Kanji symbols and their corresponding pictures to test what students know about Kanji. They were all great and probably have a better understanding of these symbols than I have! To wrap up our topic on Japanese language and traditions, we had a cherry blossom painting session in class where we also integrated the art of haiku poetry.
最後の要素、言語の探求では、すべての国にその国の言語があり、言語は自分たちの文化を豊かにし、維持するためにとても大切な物だと学びました。クラスディスカッションでは日本語には３種類の文字があることも話しました。アクティビティでは、漢字を写真とマッチするゲームをしました。今週のトピックのまとめには、桜の木を絵の具で描き、日本のアートのひとつの俳句も一緒に添えてみました。
This week was also extra special because of the Gym Open Day. We had so much fun doing the exercises and games with our parents. It was a great opportunity for us to bond together and to promote the importance of physical health.
今週はいつもにまして特別な週でもありました。ジム参観です！お父さんお母さんとエクササイズや体を使ったゲームでたくさん楽しみました！親子で一緒に体の健康を促進できるとても良い機会でした。
