みなさん、こんにちは。酷暑が一週間が過ぎました。それでもレインボーの子ども達は暑さに負けず元気に活動しました。今週からは水曜日のジムレッスンを休止して可能な限りプール遊びや水遊びを楽しむようにしています。プールに寝そべって全身を水につける子、プールの外から水に触れたり、水を運んで遊ぶ子、先生がホースで降らす雨にキャッキャと声をあげる子、みんな思い思いに水に親しみ、信州の短い夏を満喫しています。（近年は信州の夏も長くなりましたが・・・）プール遊び（水遊び）は子ども達の健康な身体作りに役立っています。
Hello everyone. A week of scorching heat has passed. However, our children at Rainbow were energetic and active, not giving in to the heat. Starting this week, we have suspended gym lessons on Wednesdays and are instead encouraging them to enjoy swimming in the pool and playing in with water as much as possible. Some children lie down in the pool and immerse their whole bodies in the water, some touch the water from outside the pool, some carry water to play in, and some fun squeal when the teacher sprays water with a hose. Everyone is enjoying the water in their own way, making the most of Shinshu’s short summer. (Although Shinshu’s summers have gotten longer in recent years…) Playing in the pool (playing in the water) helps children develop healthy bodies.
雨の日の教室内では目にも涼しい「かき氷」のクラフトを楽しみました。ビニール袋にクシャクシャにしたビニールシートや紙を入れ、氷の形を形成したら、好きな色の透明折り紙でシロップをかけ、お皿に盛ってスプーンをつけたら完成です。シロップの色を決める時には、一人一人に「何の味かな？」と質問しました。「黄色だからバナナ！」「紫のブルーベリー！」と想像力豊かに答えてくれる子ども達は微笑ましく、とても幸せな気持ちにさせてもらいました。考えること、想像すること、そんな力が着実に育っています。
On a rainy day in the classroom, our children enjoyed making a visually refreshing “shaved ice” craft. They put crumpled plastic sheets or paper into a plastic bag, formed the shape of ice, poured syrup over it using transparent origami paper of their choice, placed it on a plate and added a spoon to complete it. When deciding on the color of the syrup, we asked each child, “What flavor do you think it is?” They imaginative answers, “It’s yellow, so it’s banana!” and “It’s purple, so it’s blueberry!” were heartwarming and made us feel very happy. They are steadily developing their ability to think and imagine.
7月生まれのお友達をお祝いするバースデーパーティーが行われました。レインボーのおともだち2人も7月に3才の誕生日を迎えました。司会の先生から名前や年齢を聞かれるとしっかりとお返事することがでできました。感動的で素晴らしい時間でした。お誕生日おめでとう！（この日欠席したもう一人のお友達は、来月8月のバースデーパーティーでお祝いする予定です）
A birthday party was held to celebrate friends born in July. Two of the Rainbow friends also turned three in July. When the teacher asked her name and age, she was able to answer them clearly. It was a touching and wonderful time. Happy birthday! (The other friend who was absent this day will be celebrating at a birthday party next month in August.)
2-3才の子ども達にとって姿勢よく座っていることはきっと容易ではないはず。でもレインボーさん達は正しい姿勢で座り、先生が話し始めると顔（耳）を先生の方に向けて話を聞くことができます。また、先生のお手伝いをしたり、お友達を思いやったり、ランチを残さず食べたり、人の気持ちや正しい行いを考えて行動することもできるようになっています。頑張ったおともだちには王冠を贈り、全員で称賛しています。「どうして王冠をもらえたと思う？」と子ども達に質問したり、その理由を丁寧に説明することも欠かせません。この試みが、子ども達のモチベーションとなり、今日の自信、明日への意欲に繋がることを願っています。
It must be difficult for 2–3-year-olds to sit upright. But our Rainbows sit upright and turn their faces (ears) towards the teacher when we start to speak. They also help the teacher, are considerate of their friends, eat all their lunch, and act with consideration for other people’s feelings and the right behavior. We give crowns to them who work hard and praise them. It is also essential to ask the children, “Why do you think he/she got a crown?” and carefully explain the reason. We hope that this attempt will motivate the children and lead to their confidence today and enthusiasm for tomorrow.
