SS and SV Aug 7th-11th

This week the weather got a little better so we were able to finally use the outside pool a bit more. We had a great time playing together. Mr Jimmy asked “how’s the weather today?” and if students replied “it’s stormy!” or “it’s rainy”, they got sprayed with the hose. Some students even noticed that if we look hard at the hose spray we can see a small rainbow!
In phonics students used letter cards to make words that they know. We are getting much better at learning to sound out the words to read words. Even words we have never seen before! We practiced writing uppercase and lower case letter U, and we did lots of free writing too.
Our IB topic about buildings continued, and we have now almost finished making our model of an apartment. Students decided what objects and what rooms they wanted, and worked together to use the materials our families brought to school. We also started talking about buildings where we can buy things, and who goes to these places. We made our own pretend book shop, candy shop, toy shop and restaurant, and we learned the difference between “customer” and “employee”.
In maths we studied “longer” and “shorter”, to compare the length of objects. We sorted out all of the wooden blocks in class, and next week we will start to measure objects in the classroom.
The Sports Festival is getting closer, and we practiced the Mickey Mouse warm-up dance every day. We have remembered all the steps, and now we are working to make it perfect. Our parachute display is also coming along nicely, and we practiced in class using the parachute and moving in time with the music. Even though the practice parachute is smaller than the one we will use at the festival, we still made some beautiful shapes!
Hope everyone has a fantastic holiday. If you have time, have the ISN students teach you the Mickey Mouse warm-up dance. You can become a cute mouse too! See you next week!
