Making Ten!

We’re already half-way through October! The days are getting cooler, and leaves are falling from the trees. It’s nearly time for our Halloween party! This week we made Halloween decorations to decorate our classrooms and the hallway. If you haven’t already, please come and have a look at our great work.
In our phonics work we have been studying words with ‘x’ in them. Words that begin with ‘x’ are really rare, so we also studied words that have x in them. We learnt the word ‘oryx’. Have you heard of it? Ask your child what it means.
In maths we’ve been studying how to make ten. This week we used blocks to visualise the relationships between numbers when making ten. We figured out so many different combinations while making models.
In our UOI work we’re continuing with our new topic “how we express ourselves”. We watched and listened to so many different stories, and discussed what the word “character” means. We also talked about emotions in stories, and how we can express emotions through using our bodies. Next we week we will talk about how it might be possible to use our bodies and gestures to tell stories, and how else we can express emotions.
The letter of the week for next week is “w”, and we will also begin reading at home! From Monday we will bring home a reading card and a brand new book.

Have a lovely weekend, see you next week!
