Unit 6 final project time!

We have begun our final project for our final unit this week! We also looked at how some human organisations help animals, and improve their lives. The students also figured out what their last line of inquiry is, so now we have all the information about our unit. In summary:

Transdisciplinary Theme: Sharing the planet

Central Idea: Human activities affect animals

Line of inquiry 1: Living things can be classified

Line of inquiry 2: Human activities can affect animals in a negative way

Line of inquiry 3: Human organisations can improve animals’ lives

We did some more note taking and independent research practice on conservation organisations. It is such an important skill to be able to find information, and decide what are the most important point. We can then take those points and put them into our own words by making essays, posters, videos etc. The websites we looked at were:

These are just some of the organisations helping animals and our environment. Why don’t you have a look at home too? Do they have Japanese websites? Can you find other conservation organisations?

Our final project is in two parts:

1. Write an essay about an endangered animal. You have to say why it is endangered, who is helping the animal, and what we can do to make sure it doesn’t become extinct. Plus this essay is our first attempt at writing a four paragraph essay!!!

2. We will do a small exhibition. We will choose any topic related to our central idea, and then create many materials (posters, craft, pictures, essays etc.) and present them to the teachers and students of ISN. This will happen on the 18th of March. If you have time, why don’t you stop by? (Please contact our office to let them know what time you would like to come).

We’ve been so busy this week with our final project, but we have also found time to practice singing and dancing for the welcome ceremony in April. Students have choreographed their own dances to welcome the new grade ones, who will be arriving soon. We can’t wait to give them a really warm welcome.

Next week on Wednesday we will have a cross-country skiing day. It will be so much fun to get outside, enjoy nature, and move our bodies in the mountains!

Unfortunately today is Ms Shino’s last day as our PE teacher. All students made thank you cards to show their appreciation for all the help she has given us over the years. Thank you Miss Shino!!

探究の単元 2: 人間の活動は動物に悪影響を及ぼし得る
1. 絶滅の危機に瀕した動物についてエッセイを書く。なぜそれが絶滅の危機に瀕しているのか、誰がその動物を助けているか、そして、それが絶滅しないようにするために出来ることを述べます。さらに、みんなが4つのパラグラフのエッセイを書くのは今回初めての挑戦です!
2. 小さな展示を飾ります。セントラルアイディアに関連したトピックを選び、ポスター、クラフト、絵、エッセイなど沢山の資料を作って先生とクラスメートに披露します。3月18日に披露します。もしお時間ありましたら、ぜひ見に来てください。(何時に見に来られたいかオフィススタッフへご連絡ください。)
