今週のRainforestは現在行っているユニットの最終週、アセスメントウィークでした。
最後のアセスメントタスクとして、昔に人々が使っていた物や古いものを作るという工作をしました。タイプライター、古い電話、馬車、台所用品など子どもたちは思い思いに興味のあるものを作るのを楽しみました。
また、今週はお祝い事（お祭り）、そして家など建築物が過去から現在にどのように変化してきたのかを探求しました。
お盆やこどもの日は昔から祝われてきたもので、今でも大きな行事のひとつなのに比べて、クリスマスやハロウィン、バレンタインデーなどは海外から伝えられたお祭りで本当に最近になって日本で一般化してきたことには子どもたちも驚いていました！
加えて、日本食の変化にも目を向けてみると、ファストフードが食べられるようになる前の伝統的な日本食は、今の食事よりもより健康的なものだということに気付くこともできました。コカ・コーラやアイスクリームは日本独自のものではなく、100年前は日本人はそのようなものは摂取していないという事実に驚きの声が上がりました。
たくさんの新しい発見と驚き続きの1週間でしたが、ＩＢユニット以外の活動ではscrやshrなどの3重母音、ouやoyの2重母音という少し複雑な文字から始まる単語を考えました。算数では数の値について学びました。
This week Rainforest completed our final assessment related to our IB unit by making a replica of something old.
We have looked at things such as typewriters, old phones, horses and carriages, Penny Farthing bicycles, gramophones, kitchen items and many other things.
This week we have looked at how food, celebrations/festivals and houses/buildings have changed over time as part of the central idea “The culture of a country changes over time”. We learnt that some festivals like Obon and Children’s Day started in the past and are still celebrated, whereas others like Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Halloween are fairly new holidays that Japanese people celebrate.
It was a little bit hard for the children to learn that Christmas started in the Middle East and not the USA!
By looking at all the food that was traditionally eaten in Japan before fast food was introduced, we noticed that it was more healthy in the past. The children were a little bit surprised to learn that ice cream and coca cola didn’t come from Japan and people didn’t eat or drink it here one hundred years ago.
This week we have continued learning about tripthongs such as /scr/ and /shr/ words, diphthongs /ou/ and /oy/ and place value in maths.
