ISN’s Summer Program is sizzling!

This week has been the start of our Elementary Summer Program. All students are enjoying working with new friends. Today we walked to the park where we played soccer and other games. When the weather is fine over the next four weeks, we will continue to walk to the local park and enjoy outdoor activities. We are also enjoying practicing the 3 ball games – leader ball, tunnel ball, and corner spry – which we will compete in at the ISN Elementary Sports Festival on October 6.
We continue to investigate our trandisciplinary theme: “Where we are in place and time”, and our central idea “Geography influences how communities interact with their environment.” In these last few weeks of our unit of study, we are being geographers and managing an entire island in the South Pacific Ocean. Our goal is to set up a caring, self-sufficient community in this pristine environment. This week we finished mapping the island and students will now identify and record all the natural resources on and around the island including the wildlife. They will also note the weather patterns, seasons and annual rainfall. With much discussion and debate students will be making decisions about what to bring onto the island, what to build and what to protect. Certainly there will be many questions to answer, many problems to solve, and many of our own ideas to trial. We look forward to some exciting outcomes.
