This week marked the end of the current Unit of Inquiry for the Upper Elementary Class. The students explored the concept of making our World a better place through helping others and using their own strength and knowledge to do it.
The class’ big project this week was planting their very own garden patch in the school front yard. They raked the ground, put some extra soil and fertilizer on it and everyone put their own bean seeds in the soil. The teachers helped as well and some of the lower grade students agreed to be careful and not step into the garden while playing, making this a project the whole campus worked together on. Let’s watch our beans grow together as well!
The students are also finishing their other projects, particularly the newspaper they are working on together, for which they wrote a great number of articles and created wonderful drawings and puzzles, and the paintings they did on the classroom partition, which depict various ways everyone can make the world a better place.
The students have also welcomed a new classmate, Mona from Germany. Everyone seems to like Mona a lot and they seem especially enchanted by the German language.
Thank you to all the parents who came to their parent-teacher meetings this week as well. Hopefully they have been informative. Next week marks the start of the class’ new Unit of Inquiry and the students will start exploring the concepts of migrations. Let’s make next week as fun and as inspiring as this one.
アッパーエレメンタリークラスでは、今年最初の探求の概念（unit of Inquiry）を終えました。子どもたちは、より良い世界を築いていくという概念を、自分の長所や知識を活かして周囲の人や物を助けながら探究してきました。
今週の大きなプロジェクトは、校舎の前の庭を耕して土と肥料を与えて、各自、種を植えました。島内キャンパスの他のクラスのお友達とも、庭で遊ぶ際は、畑に入らないようにお約束をして、学校のみんなで、豆の成長を見守っていきたいと思います。
そして、より平和な世界を築いていくためのアイディアを表現するために取り組んできたその他の取り組み（クラスルームに立てるパーティションや、新聞用の記事、素晴らしい絵やパズルなど）も完成しました。
さらに、今週は、ドイツから新しいクラスメート モナを迎えました！みんな、モナのことが大好きで、特に、彼女のドイツ語に魅了されていました。
保護者懇談会にお越し頂きありがとうございました。色々な話ができてよかったと思います。来週は、新しい探求の概念（Unit of Inquiry）が始まります。次のユニットも楽しんで取り組んでいきましょう！
