Hello to everyone reading! 🌻
So many things have come to an end during these past two weeks.
Firstly, the students have worked very hard on all their assignments to quickly finish their Unit of Inquiry about food. The students inquired into how food is grown, produced, bought, cleaned, prepared, eaten and how people deal with waste. This week, as part of their last Line of Inquiry, the students discussed how we can improve dealing with food waste in our homes (the students shared ideas they could use in their family homes) and in the community (the students watched videos on topic such as waste taxation and recycling centers and shared their opinions). 🗑️
They have also finished filming and editing a video they prepared for the prefecture-wide competition, with the aim of promoting their local community. Since the students’ idea for the video focused on food production, it also served as an assessment task for the past Unit – a way for them to show their knowledge, approaching the assessment from a more creative viewpoint.
For the past month, the students enjoyed the company of University students from Melbourne University who have this year, due to the global pandemic, joined our classroom online, through video calls. This week we said goodbye to our new friends Jemma and Donggyu, with the hopes that next year we can meet them in person. 🖥️
We are also starting some new things though.
October has begun and with it, it brings the annual Halloween party. This year, due to the pandemic, it will take place in individual classrooms, but Grade 4, 5, 6 and 7 students are still eager to show off their costumes and have already prepared a fun-filled schedule for that day. 🎃
On some of the photos, you can see machines that the students have designed in their Science lesson. The goal was to create a compound machine – one that combines two or more simple machines into a useful contraption. The students showed lots of creativity as usual. From October 12th, they will start preparation for their individual PYP Exhibitions, which will take place on December 18th. The Exhibition is an important event in the education of every IB PYP students, since it marks their completion of the 5-year primary program and is a chance to demonstrate their understanding of the PYP curriculum and all the related concepts. There is lots of hard work in front of us, but with the students showing an amazing level of creativity such as this, nothing will be too much! 🚀
On October 15th, the class will have a field trip to Tirol forest. Unfortunately, our beloved Tirol forest park will be closed soon, so the students feel very excited about being able to visit it once last time as a group. We will experience a train ride, a hike, petting zoo, soba workshop and of course, lots of playtime with friends. All the parents will receive an e-mail with all the details about the trip.
