An audience!
ISN Elementary Class has been practicing what it takes to speak well in front of an audience: a voice that is loud and clear, and a good stance with head up. All students have enjoyed being both audience and speaker. When in the audience, students give feedback to the speaker as to what the speaker did well and what they need to improve on. When speaking in front of an audience, students have been taking time to first store information in their brain by looking at their notes, and then looking up to speak these ideas loudly and clearly.
Busy chefs in noisy kitchens have also caused a lot of excitement as we look more closely at one of the many important occupations in our community. Everyone chose to investigate this occupation as a class to see exactly what a chef does, and to see how this work is connected to other occupations within the community. Our transdisciplinary theme is ‘Who we are’ and our central idea is ‘Occupations are interconnected and essential for the well-being of a community.’
These activities are leading up to our end-of-unit presentation where each student will choose an occupation they would like to investigate, research information about that occupation, and then present their findings to an audience of parents, teachers and students.
This week we also had the pleasure of listening to Mr Richard play some amazing piano pieces for us. Mr Richard is a high school student from America who is currently performing with other students in a music concert in Matsumoto.
Our garden continues to be a source of interest and enjoyment for our students. Today we planted more flower seeds. All our vegetable seeds have now sprouted and will begin to supply us with delicious fresh food in a few weeks.
