Fresh food is best

ISN Elementary Class students continue to investigate the central idea “Occupations are interconnected and essential for the well-being of a community.” under the transdisciplinary theme “Who we are”.
This week we had the pleasure of visiting one of the JA shops that sells many products grown and made by the local people within the Matsumoto community. From healthy plants and locally grown fruit and vegetables to craft and freshly baked bread, this JA store certainly had it all. Every student found lots of things they wanted to buy.
Before looking at all the amazing products, students had many questions they wanted to ask about this store and the company JA. Students really enjoyed talking with Mr Taro from JA who answered all their questions and who also explained how the farmers and the people in the local community work together to share their wonderful products.
Before returning to school we purchased 7 tomato plants each of which will yield a different variety of tomato. Students are excited to see which type of tomato will grow on each plant. We enjoyed planting these in our school vegetable garden.
We look forward to taking care of them like real farmers, and eating fresh tomatoes, and also sharing them with our school community.
