Who rules?(Grade 3)

This week the Grade 3 classroom has been a hotbed of political inquiry. In groups the students were researching an example of governance. The three areas of focus were. Autocracy, Democracy and Oligarchy. Each group organized themselves with regards making an explanatory poster and a presentation.

The groups seemed both surprised and confused to learn that countries can change the form of governance over the course of time. For instance, the USA has changed from an autocratic system to a democratic one over the course of the past 250 years.

The presentations were done twice as it appeared some groups had been a little confused as to what was required by the presentations. However, on the second going there was a vast improvement in content, understanding and presentation style.

Also, for future decision making, the students have decided that direct democracy is a better system for making decisions in class. Maybe even better than having a teacher dictator!

Have a nice week everyone!
