Hello everyone! It is the last week before the Christmas performance! Take a look at the wonderful photos the students took for the performance booklet! Don’t they look wonderful in their 1930s costumes? 🎄
The dance and line practices have reached their peak and the students’ only focus now is presenting the best play that they possibly can. Wednesday marked the final dress rehearsal at the Performing Arts Center and the students were complimented for their efforts by all the viewers, including teachers from other schools. They had a chance to practice their music performance as well. On Friday, it was time to go to the gym one more time, to practice the play from start to finish. Last seconds are ticking! ⏰
The props for the play have also been almost completed. This week, the students have painted the school, finished their flower pots, made a ship funnel and life rings and came up with a wonderful idea for presenting the title of the play. Taro made a wonderful steamship out of papercraft and Yuuki K. suggested everyone makes a big cardboard ship with the letters “Mystery Destination” painted over it. 🚢
On Monday, the students’ practice was filmed and on Tuesday, they enjoyed making their own “movie theater” in the classroom and looking at their own performance projected on the wall. Their task was to look at their own acting and dancing critically, taking notice of the good things about it that they are proud of and things that they need to improve on before next Friday.
The third Line of inquiry for the current Unit is “People use media to take action: survival, entertainment and inquiry”. The students were quick to recognize the importance of media in the World, but also the relation between it and their performance. Some of the passengers on the big ships had to migrate to other countries for mere survival, running away form poverty or disease, some traveled luxuriously, enjoying food and entertainment on deck, and some went to explore and inquire about new countries. The Upper Elementary Class was entertained and inquired as well, researching all the information they needed in their play, writing a lot of their lines by themselves and choreographing their own dances. It’s sometimes hard to believe that they are able to do all that by themselves. Their teachers are amazed by their creativity and independence every day. 🌟
A word of information about next week’s performance day: The Elementary Class performance starts at 13:00. Entrance is free so please inquire with the ISN office staff about getting tickets. If the students wish to see the preschool performance, they can arrive at the hall at around 8:30. A teacher will be there and they can watch together from the balcony. If not, they can arrive at around 12:30, meet their teachers and get ready for the performance. 😊

みなさん、こんにちは！クリスマスパフォーマンス前の最後の週です。パフォーマンスのパンフレット用に撮影した生徒達の素晴らしい写真をご覧ください！
１９３０年代の衣装を着たみんな素敵ですよね？🎄
ダンスと台詞の練習もピークに達し、今は出来る限りベストな演技を披露できるようにひたすら集中しています。水曜日は、実際にホールで衣装を着てリハーサルを行いました。劇場のスタッフを含む観客からお褒めの言葉をいただきました。演奏もホールで練習することができました。金曜日は、もう一度体育館に行き、初めから最後まで演劇の練習をしました。本番までカウントダウンとなりました。⏰
演技の小道具もほぼ完成しました。今週は、学校の絵を描き、花瓶を完成させました。船の煙突と救命浮き輪も作りました。そして、演劇の題名を発表する良いアイディアが思い付きました。Tくんは、紙のクラフトで素敵な蒸気船を作り、Yくんは、「Mystery Destination」と書いた大きな船を段ボールで作ろうと提案してくれました。🚢
月曜日は、練習している様子を撮影し、火曜日に教室を映画館にして録画したものを見て楽しみました。それぞれ自分の演技とダンスをじっくり見て、良いと思うところや本番までに改善して練習した方が良いところを見つけながら見ました。
今行っている３つめのユニットは、「人は行動を起こす為にメディアを使用する。サバイバル、娯楽、探究です。」がテーマです。生徒達は、世界におけるメディアの重要性だけでなく、メディアとパフォーマンスの関係についてもすぐに認識できました。大型船に乗っていた乗客の中には、新しい国を調べたり探検するために旅行する人や、食べ物や娯楽をデッキで楽しんだりする贅沢な旅行であったり、貧困や病気から逃げ出す生存のために他の国に移住しなければならない人もいました。アッパーエレメンタリークラスでも、演劇に必要な情報を調べ、台詞を沢山書き、自分達でタンスの振り付けをして、楽しみながら調べていて、みんなの創造力と自主性に感心しました。来週のパフォーマンスデイについての情報です。小学部のパフォーマンスは午後13時に開始します。もしプレスクールのパフォーマンスをご覧になりたい場合は、朝８：３０にホールへお越しください。スタッフや先生がおりますので一緒に客席で見ましょう。もしプレスクールのショーをご覧にならない場合は、１２時半に会場で待ち合わせて先生やみんなとパフォーマンスの準備をしましょう。良い週末をお過ごしください。
