Today we enjoyed ending our week with an art surprise!
Our play is about spring so why not make some colourful insects to go on our props: butterflies! Choosing different coloured paint and a piece of paper, students made some amazing discoveries: symmetry happens when you squash colourful paint between two pieces of paper. After deciding on the colours they’d use for their art piece, students folded the paper and spread the paint that was inside the paper using their fingers. Everyone was saying “WOW!” when they opened the paper to reveal the wonderful symmetrical patterns inside. When they are dry, we will cut them out and stick them on some of our props adding more colour and excitement to the spring scenes in our play.
This week students also practiced being risk takers; they had fun being creative with their speaking. Using a camera, students worked in pairs to record each other talking about different topics, reciting their lines for their play, and telling jokes and riddles. In our play practices we have been improving on our skills to speak using more volume, expression and fluency. Going outside to record, students have been able to practice their loudest, clearest voice without screaming. It has been a challenge all students have been most willing to try.
Next week is our last week on this fantastic unit “How we express ourselves”. Our central idea “Through creative arts we can discover a culture’s history, values and beliefs.” has given us lots to think about, lots to learn, and lots to enjoy. It is certainly excellent that we get to end this unit with our performances in our ISN Christmas Show on Friday, December 15. We look forward to seeing all our lovely families and friends there and we are excited to show them the culmination of our latest learning journey.
