We learn about cooperation

This week we have been studying our second line of inquiry: We all have responsibilities, sometimes we share them.

As Sports Festival is upon us, we have been working together to perfect our routine. One section of the routine in particular involves a lot of teamwork so the students are slowly realising how important it is to pay attention and work together.

Outside of rehearsal time, we looked at how animals work together to achieve a common purpose by watching videos about fish who stay in a tight ball to prevent attack from tuna fish, lionesses working together to hunt and penguins huddling together to keep warm and rotating their position in the circle so that every penguin has a chance to be really warm in the middle. Thanks David Attenborough!

So then we drew pictures our our favourite animal showing cooperation. In math we have continued to learn about subtraction and in literacy we have worked on rhyming words by reading “Room on a broom” by Julia Donaldson and writing sentences.

Next week we would like to challenge the students to do a job at home that their parents would like them to get better at, for example, cleaning up your toys or unpacking your backpack. So we will send a piece of paper home with them with their goal on it.
