“What are we all doing to make the world we share a better place? Can we do anything more?”
These questions have been on the minds of the Upper elementary class students this week, as they continue to inquire into their recent unit. The students are already aware that they are making the world a better place by helping younger students with reading, but they have spent most of the past week thinking of ideas on making their own school a better place. The ideas ranged from building a new play structure to simply cleaning up, but they were all notable and worthy of being shared, which is why everyone contributed to the class poster detailing all the ideas. The students will try to implement at least some of them in the coming months. They have also took photos of different things they would like to improve, some of which can be seen below.
The class has also been exploring how different organizations around the world try to help plants, animal and humanity. They watched videos about the World Wildlife Fund, Water4More, an organization bringing drinkable water to Africa and the story of Winter, a dolphin who lost her tail and was made a new, prosthetic one. All of these made excellent ideas for the students’ own newspaper articles, which they are working very hard on. After they have finished, the articles will be compiled in a single, Upper Elementary newspaper.
The weather turned out to be very nice this past week, which also enabled the students to enjoy some playtime in the nearby forest. From next week, they will also have an outside lesson once a week, so hopefully the weather serves us well for the rest of the spring.
アッパーエレメンタリーの子供たちは、今週も、世界をより良くする為に、もっと他に何ができるか考えました。皆、Milky WayとRainforestのクラスのお友達に一緒に本を読んであげたりしてお友達に役に立っていると感じています。ここ数週間は、みんなでどのように学校をより良い場所にしていくか考えてきました。そして、それぞれのアイディアをポスターにしました。これから、皆のアイディアを実施していきたいと思います。以下に、改善していきたい様々な物の写真を載せましたので、ご覧ください。
また、世界中の様々な組織が植物や動物、人間などの生命体をどのように助けているか調べました。アフリカに飲み水を提供した団体、WWFやWater4More のビデオを見ました。子供たちが一生懸命取り組んできている新聞作成の記事の良いアイディアになりそうです。子供たちの記事が完成したら、アッパーエレメンタリークラスの新聞として一つに纏めますので、お楽しみに。
今週も、お天気にも恵まれ、近くの森で楽しい時間を過ごすことがきました。来週からは、週一で外活動も行っていきたいと思います。もうしばらく、心地よい春の天気を楽しみたいですね！
