Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7: Food

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to our blog! After a long break and the fun we had during the Summer programme, the students are back to inquiring into new and exciting knowledge. ☘️

First things first, we’d like to welcome four new students to our little classroom. Grade 4 students will join the ranks of Grades 5, 6 and 7 from now on, until the end of the school year.

The students were excited to start a new Unit of inquiry, dealing with food. The Central idea is “The way we use food has an impact on our bodies and our environment” and the first line of inquiry is “Growing food and the food industry”. Consequently, the students discussed the ways different food is grown, prepared, consumed and disposed of and have researched the same questions about several types of food, the making of which was new information to them. For example, lots of students were unsure of but wanted to know the way to make cheese. 🧀

The students have excitedly started planning their Christmas show for this school year. Even though it is still quite early, the students quickly agreed that they wanted to think of and write their own original story once again and decided that the entire process might take more time, so it’s better to start early. No spoilers ahead of time, but we can guarantee that the show will be a real mystery… 👻

In History lesson, the students started inquiring into Middle ages, while in Science, they talked about simple machines and tried to make their own catapult out of craft. In Art, they discussed abstract art and the work of Piet Mondrian.

Let’s see what this next week brings to us!
