Hello, everyone!
The third artist we talked about in class was Yayoi Kusama.
皆さんこんにちは！今週は、3人目のアーティストとして、草間彌生氏について学びました。
We first shared our ideas on what we think and feel about the art works made by Yayoi. Most of us said it all made us happy and exciting when we look at her work. It is also very playful. colorful and free. We all loved her work. Some of us even went to visit her exhibit and one of our classmates’ mom’s name is also Yayoi! We just love all the pretty colors in her work.
私たちはまず、草間彌生さんの作品を見て何を思うか、何を感じるかについて意見を出し合いました。クラスのほとんどが、彼女の作品を見ていると楽しくてワクワクすると言っていました。また、とても遊び心があり、カラフルで自由です。私たちは皆、彼女の作品が大好きになりました。何人かは、彼女の美術館に行ったことがあり、またあるクラスメイトのお母様のお名前も「やよい」さんなんです！彼女の作品のきれいな色もとても大好きです。
One interesting thing that we learned about her life is that all her art works are based on her hallucinations since she was a child. She didn’t have a happy childhood and so she would experience a lot of hallucinations. These became her inspiration in making her masterpieces. We wrote a lot on our artist’s memo and most of us remember things about her.
彼女の人生についてわかった興味深いことのひとつは、彼女の芸術作品はすべて、子供の頃からの幻覚をもとにしているということです。彼女は幸せな子供時代を過ごせなかったので、多くの幻覚を経験していました。それがインスピレーションとなって傑作を生み出したのだと思います。皆、アーティストメモにたくさんのことを書き、彼女についてたくさんのことを覚えました。
One of her inspirations was the pumpkin. So we made our own pumpkin and tried to make our own Kusama’s style of painting. She is known for her dots or spots which made her very unique and famous. We had so much fun creating our own Kusama pumpkin. It’s also timely for the fall season!
彼女がインスピレーションを受けたもののひとつに「カボチャ」があります。そこで、私たちは自分たちでカボチャを作り、草間彌生さんのスタイルで絵を描いてみました。草間さんの作品はドットやスポットで知られていますが、それが彼女をとてもユニークで有名にしました。私たちは、自分たちの草間式カボチャを作ることをとても楽しみました。これは秋の季節にぴったりでした！
