This week in Shooting Star, we enjoyed some days with warm spring feeling breeze!
Even though we couldn’t go to the park unfortunately because of the previous day’s rain and snow, we enjoyed playing at the play castle.
Also we had two special guests in the morning!
They are usually helping our school work at Kotobuki-kita campus, and it was their first visit to Minami campus that day.
The students were excited to have them for the first time and communicated with them in English very well.
In the phonics lesson, we are learning digraph oo, long vowel sound and short vowel sound.
The words for this week are:
Digraph oo (long vowel sound)…stool, tool, zoom,
Digraph oo (short vowel sound)…book, hook, hoof,
Since they started to learn phonics, they have always been curious why these oo is sounded as /u:/ or /u/.
Now with Ms Bon’s explanation and all the worksheets they have done, they started to read the words with less difficulty.
For IB learning: How the world works, we learned about gravity.
Why do the things fall? Why the speed of the things fall on the ground is different?
As an introduction we started with a fun experiment, such as dropping a piece of paper and a rock, bouncing a ball, and so on.
The students were very curious about gravity and shared a lot of thoughts and ideas.
As it is getting closer to Hina Festival (Girls’ Festival) we made Ohinasama and Odairisama on Thursday.
They decorated the Kimono clothes and drew faces on Origami paper.
Each of them were very unique and cute!
We probably want to put them on the wall in the hallway, so if you see them, please look at them carefully in their face and decoration.
Parents and Teacher Conference has started now, and we are very happy to tell the parents about how much they have grown up and improved!

今週は暖かい陽気の中、新しい出会いと学びいっぱいでした。
月曜日の雨（雪）で火曜日の公園は行けませんでしたが、スクールの外でドッジボールをしたり、お砂遊びをしたり、汗をかくまで思う存分遊べました！
また午前中には、寿北キャンパスでお手伝いをしてくれているアメリカ人の先生2人が南松本キャンパスへ来てくれ、朝の時間で自己紹介をしたり、質問をしたり、歌を歌ったりと、みんな英語で上手にコミュニケーションをとりながら楽しんでいました！
今週のフォニックスレッスンでは、二重音字のooについて学びました。
ooは母音のため、長母音と短母音に分かれ、長母音の場合はウー、短母音はウッと発音されます（今週の単語は上記の英語部分でご確認ください）。
フォニックスを習い始めてから、様々な単語を読めるようになっているシューティングスターのお友達。絵本の中にも多く出てくるooの発音方法がやっとわかり、またさらに読める単語が増えました！
IBのユニット学習では、重力について新たな理解と知識を深めることができました。
「どうして物は落ちるの？」「物が落ちるスピードはどうして違うの？」
ボールや石と紙、丸めた紙とそうでない紙、などいろいろなものを同じタイミングで落として簡単な実験をしてみました。
物が地面に落ちるのは、重力があるから。重力とは重さのあるものを地面が引っ張っていること。
物それぞれが空気と触れる面積の違いによって、下に落ちる速さが変わるということ。
子どもたちも皆、とても興味深く実験をしたり、考えや意見を発言できたレッスンでした。
ひな祭りが近いので、木曜日にはお雛様とお内裏様の工作をしました。
トイレットペーパーの芯と折り紙を使って、思いおもいに着物をデザインしたり、お雛様とお内裏様の顔の違いを上手に描いたりすることができました。
完成したものは、廊下に貼って皆さんに見ていただければと思います。どうぞお楽しみに！
先週の金曜日からは保護者懇談会が始まりました。子どもたちのとっても上手になったライティングや、普段の様子をお伝えできること、私たちもとても楽しみにしています。
来週はもう3月に入ります！2月も残り数日です。一日いちにちを楽しみながら過ごしましょう！
