Milky Way January 8-12

The first school week of the new year was very exciting for Milky Way students. They have started their studies in the new, Shimauchi campus in a classroom that was much bigger than their previous one. Everyone’s favourite part of the classroom is the play area with a large, comfortable carpet and many cushions, Upon seeing the cushions, some students were reminded of aubergines, some of boats and some of peanuts.
They have spent most of the week in exploring their surroundings, including other classes’ classrooms, their new, bigger toilets, their new music room and the library, which they love to visit every day in order to choose their home reading books. The nature surrounding the campus also appealed to the students, so we went exploring the neighbouring mountains, forests and shrines. I am positive the students will have a lot of fun in the coming moånths as well.

The first week of January also marks the start of a new unit of inquiry and a new central idea for the students to focus on. This week they have explored the idea of patterns and cycles and how they can percieve their own daily or yearly schedule as a cycle in time. They have also learned how to create their own poster and organize the content on it.
The students and myself are looking forward to another fun week.
