This week Milky Way class has begun inquiries in their new transdisciplinary theme where we are in place & time, with the central idea being that the culture of a country changes over time. The first week’s line of inquiry is: a country is made of land & people?
今週はまず日本について、子どもたちの知っている物やことを何でも書き表してみました。ダルマ、東京タワー、富士山、松本城、お寿司など様々な日本のものを描いて、クラス前の壁に貼ってあります。
また、世界地図のパズルをしながら、さまざま国旗と国の位置をみんなで確認し合いました。自由時間には、国旗の色塗りをして楽しみました。
The students each drew a picture of something that they associate with Japan; these are displayed in the classroom with the Japanese flag at the centre of the display. Students have also begun learning the English names along with the locations and of various countries on a world map and also to recognise several national flags. They have also enjoyed colouring the flags during free time (among a great many other activities of their choice).
Englishの時間は、引き続きアルファベット文字の発音をしています。また、Sight Wordもたくさん覚えてきています。
In English, the class is looking at the use of prepositions while continuing with single- and multiple-letter phonograms and has started a third list of sight words. Additionally a vocabulary list relating to the current theme has been started.
算数は、これから時計を読むこと、時間を伝えることを目標としているので、5ずつ、10ずつで数字を数えることも練習しています。
In mathematics the class is continuing to learn the values of doubling numbers six through twelve concurrent with the two-times table. They have also been counting from zero in fives and tens, which will in the coming weeks, lead into both the five- and ten-times tables as well as telling the time.
