Learning more about Natural Resources (Milky Way)

The Milky Way kids have done a lot of fun activities this week, starting with Hinamatsuri! This special celebration made the students feel giddy with excitement to make their own emperor and empress dolls. We made our dolls using origami paper. They were all so focused and careful in folding the thin paper and of course, the end result was amazing. Their fine motor skills have improved a lot and it was quite noticeable in this activity.

In UOI, we continued our lesson on Natural Resources. Our last topic was Fossil Fuels. The students learned that Fossil Fuels provide energy to different things for it to work, but burning a lot of these can be harmful to our planet. So, the next topic that focused on was Alternative Energy Sources! We learned that there are other energy sources that can replace fossil fuels and they do not have harmful effects on the planet. Some examples of alternative energy sources are Solar, Wind, and Hydropower. After learning about all of these, we tried if this would work in giving energy to man-made things, so we created our very own wind-powered vehicle. Everyone had a wonderful time making and playing with this special invention and wind can really make it work!

The students also learned that animals are also considered natural resources because they help people with their survival on Earth. Animals provide us with different things, but we should also know how to take care of them. The Milky Way kids decided to be Animal Heroes and identified some ways on how to take care of animals.

Lastly, we learned about the importance of plants, trees, and forests. Plants are the very foundation of the food chain because they can make their own food. We also rely on them for keeping our air clean. Deforestation is happening all around the globe and so the Milky Way kids decided to contribute to saving our trees. They all wanted to be Tree Heroes! The Milky Way Tree Heroes were able to identify ways on how to save and protect the trees and our remaining forests.

The Milky Way kids seem to be enjoying our topic on Natural Resources! I hope that you also had fun reading our blog! Until next time!
