Rainforest: Culture is important for making a country

This week we have continued to learn about culture and why it is important for making a country. Students learnt that many foods that they think are Japanese, such as curry, ramen, gyoza, pancakes and even pizza are not from Japan. We have been learning how to write in other languages such as ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, the Thai alphabet, Khmer (Cambodian) numbers and Arabic. We will also learn how to write Indigenous Australian pictographs on Friday. Yesterday Ms Sayo taught they children how to write their first name in kanji.

We will also be doing activities about past, present and future in relation to the children’s lives which is why we would love to have some photos of the students from when they were younger up till now.

We have continued to learn about time in maths, counting in 5s and 10s to help us read the minutes on the clock. We also started basic subtraction yesterday because we are learning about fact families. For example, if 6+4 = 10, then 4+6=10 so 10-6=4 and 10-4=6.
