Rainforest and Auld Lang Syne: December 18-22

We wrapped up the year with a traditional song Auld Lang Syne (old long since) which is an old Scottish song. The song sings of friends (old acquaintances) you know whom you will not want to forget. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auld_Lang_Syne Rainforest says that they will not forget their friends and teachers even when they go to elementary school! Rainforest was invited to Savanna class for some fun and games. Rainforest serenaded everyone with Auld Lang Syne. In return, we received season’s greetings cards from Savanna. Thank you!

Auld Lang Syne

Should old acquaintance be forgot,

and never brought to mind?

Should old acquaintance be forgot,

and days of old lang syne?

CHORUS:

For auld lang syne, my dear,

for auld lang syne,

we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,

for days of auld lang syne.

We had a week of great craft fun. We created rainbows with 7 colours – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. We learned about Saint Patrick’s Day, and Rainforest was very interested in the magical tricky creatures – the leprechauns. The story of Leprechauns, rainbow and a pot of gold captured their imagination! The folk legend goes that if you capture a thumb-sized Leprechaun, he might just show you his pot of gold at the end of a rainbow!

We painted pine cones green and voila… a mini Christmas tree with a crystal star on the top! Why is the tree not brown? Someone asked. Fantastic question! We discussed what a fir tree is. A Christmas fir tree is an evergreen tree that is green all seasons. Yes, their leaves are different with needle-like leaves that do not fall. Good inquiry, Rainforest!

The cold did not stop us from playing in the great outdoors. We had fun in the park. A brief snowfall one of the afternoons had Rainforest all excited and singing! Snowflakes, snowflakes, little snowflakes – one of our favourite winter songs! When asked what does snow taste like? “No flavour”, someone called out!

Rainforest reflected on what the year 2023 meant to us and the precious moments we had. I liked the craft work making Christmas Tree. I enjoyed writing. I liked the stories. April was good because it was start of Rainforest. I liked Christmas Show The Wonderful Wizards of Oz. I liked the Sports Festival relay race. I enjoyed the birthday parties. I enjoyed going to Miso Factory! Sports festival was fun because of the gauze dance. Beautiful memories we had of 2023 indeed! Our heartfelt thanks to you dear Parents too for your unwavering support and love! Let’s look forward to another exciting year ahead. Till 2024, Happy Holidays and take care!
